Beijing, May 10 /Xinhua/ — China will host the 32nd meeting of Trade Ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) from May 22 to 23 in the city of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, East China. This was reported on Saturday by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.
Against the backdrop of growing global uncertainty, sluggish economic growth, and complex challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region, China, together with the APEC economies, will make efforts to reach a consensus on two key priority areas, said the representative of China at the international trade negotiations at the Ministry of Commerce, Deputy Minister of Commerce of the PRC Li Chenggang, at a press conference.
According to him, in order to form an open and predictable regional and multilateral trade and economic order, China seeks to promote closer coordination of economic and trade rules in the region, strengthen the interconnectedness and sustainability of supply chains, as well as develop trade and investment partnerships that facilitate the strengthening of mutual trust.
China will hold in-depth discussions with members of APEC on ways and measures to expand and strengthen cooperation in emerging areas such as the digital and “green” economy, aiming to create a new driver for innovative and dynamic cooperation in trade and investment.
China expects that this meeting will send signals about support for high-level openness, strengthening digital and “green” cooperation, as well as commitment to inclusive growth and common prosperity, Li Chengang added.
As part of the meeting, the Chinese side will also conduct a series of seminars on simplifying investment procedures, electronic bills of lading, “green” supply chains, and digital border inspection networks.
Earlier, China hosted APEC trade minister meetings in 2001 and 2014. The 33rd informal meeting of APEC economic leaders will take place in November in Shenzhen /Guangdong Province, South China/.
