UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the announced three-day ceasefire from May 9 to 11, as well as the planned large-scale exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
“The Secretary-General highly appreciates the efforts of the United States to assist in achieving this agreement and fully supports its implementation,” the statement said, issued on behalf of the UN chief by his press secretary.
The Secretary-General has once again called for an immediate, full, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire as the first step towards a just, sustainable, and comprehensive peace in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.
