UN, May 9 /Xin Hua/ — UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the three-day ceasefire and the planned prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia. This was reported on Saturday by the official representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric.
“The Secretary-General again calls for an immediate, complete, unconditional, and long-term cessation of hostilities as the first step towards a just, sustainable, and comprehensive peace in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions,” the statement by S. Dujarric says.
On May 8, Russia and Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire from May 9 to May 11, as well as on a prisoner exchange based on the formula “1000 for 1000.” –0–
