Beijing, May 8 /Xinhua/ — The National People’s Congress Standing Committee has established a special group to investigate the causes of the explosion at the pyrotechnic products factory in Hunan province /Central China/. This was reported by Chinese authorities on Friday.

An explosion occurred on May 4 at around 16:43 at an enterprise in the Luyan district of the Changsha urban area, the administrative center of Hunan Province. As of 12:00 on Friday, 37 people died as a result of the tragedy, one is missing, and 51 others were injured and are undergoing treatment.

A special group, formed in accordance with specialized laws and regulatory acts, operates under the guidance of the Ministry for Emergency Management, with the participation of the Ministry of Public Security, the General Customs Administration, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and the People’s Government of Hunan Province.

On Friday afternoon, the group held its first meeting, at which investigative measures were determined and it was emphasized that all causes of the incident and those responsible for it must be established as a result of a thorough investigation.

Participants of the meeting called on the authorities at the local level to draw serious lessons from the tragedy, to take decisive measures to strengthen control over safety when handling pyrotechnic products, as well as to identify and eliminate hidden threats in key industries and sectors, so as to decisively prevent the recurrence of similar major incidents.
