In the year of the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, under the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” more than 200 sections of regional and local roads named in honor of heroes or events of the Great Patriotic War will be restored to norm. They will also be included in the routes to monuments and memorials. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Our people, at the cost of millions of lives and immense effort, defeated the enemy, defended the country’s independence, and secured the future for new generations. In every Russian region, there are routes leading to memorial sites of the war years. A repaired road to a memorial or a smooth pavement on a street named after a hero is, first and foremost, a tribute of respect to those who wounded peace for us with their feat. In the year of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, it is planned to renovate and modernize more than 200 such road facilities with a total length of over 1 thousand km.”Special attention is always given to such routes to ensure that the memory of the hero and the home front worker is preserved for many years,
In 2020, the implementation of the “Victory Street” campaign began. The project involved 83 regions — participants of the national project “Safe and High-Quality Roads.” Approximately 400 facilities were renovated as a result. The project was so successful that it was decided to repeat it for the next anniversary date.
“In 2025, the country marked the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. This date holds paramount significance for every Russian citizen. Thanks to the project “Victory Street” and the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” more than 200 objects of the regional and local network, totaling over 600 km in length, were updated during the last road season. Traditionally, a comprehensive approach is taken. Where possible, sidewalks, pedestrian paths, and barrier fences are provided.””Memorial days, memorials, and places of military glory are visited by many people, so the route to them must be comfortable and as safe as possible,” emphasized Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.
On the eve of Victory Day, it is worth remembering and honoring the heroic work of road workers, who in the 1940s also made an invaluable contribution to its approach.
“During the years of the Great Patriotic War, as a result of numerous fierce battles, not only cities and villages were destroyed, but also automobile roads. Road workers, together with combat units, approached Victory: from 1941 to 1945, about 100 thousand kilometers of automobile roads were restored, repaired, and newly constructed, over 1 million linear meters of bridges, more than 30 million cubic meters of sand, stone, and lumber were harvested and delivered for road construction. Thanks to this titanic effort, the advancement of troops and supply of the front was ensured.””The significance of this work cannot be overestimated,” noted the deputy head of the Federal Road Agency, Kairat Tursunbekov.
During the years of the Great Patriotic War, the Leningrad region became one of the key theaters of military operations. Its territory and population endured severe trials related to military operations, occupation, and the partisan movement. Only in 2026 will roadworks take place at 15 sites leading to places of military glory and monuments erected in honor of the heroes and victims of the Great Patriotic War.
In particular, this season two sections of the Strelna – Kipen – Gatchina highway will be repaired. One of them is located near Ropsha and provides transport accessibility to several monuments at once. For example, a monument to Lieutenant General Dmitry Milyukov, distinguished in the battle on the Nevsky Pyatachok, the Sinyavinsky Heights, and the Oranienbaum Bridgehead, is installed here.During the years of the Great Patriotic War, he progressed from platoon commander to commander of a rifle battalion, participated in the defense of Leningrad, the breakthrough of the blockade, the liberation of the Leningrad region from the German-Fascist occupiers, the crossing of the Narva River, and in other combat operations.
Also in Ropsha, there is a monument to the Soviet tankers – an authentic KV-1 tank, which participated in the liberation of the village, installed on a high pedestal. This monument commemorates the events of January 1944, when the troops of the Leningrad Front encircled the enemy, approaching the lifting of the blockade of Leningrad.
The second repair section, 3 km long, runs near Gatchina. Here is located one of the bunkers from the time of the Great Patriotic War. In 1941, these bunkers helped delay the advance of the German army for a full three weeks, which allowed the city’s defense to be strengthened on the last line near Pulkovo, as well as to evacuate tens of thousands of civilians.
During the repair process at the site, the road surface is being renewed, public transport stops are being equipped, and necessary safety elements are being installed.
In the capital of the Chechen Republic, the city of Grozny, a section of the street named after Magomed Uzuev – a heroic defender of the Brest Fortress – has been reconstructed. In the course of fierce battles, Magomed Uzuev demonstrated exceptional courage and self-sacrifice, forever inscribing his name in history. In 1996, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. The comprehensive renovation of the road on Magomed Uzuev Street is a tribute to his feat and to all defenders of the Fatherland.
Work on the site began in 2025, the section 2.4 km long was expanded to four lanes. The facility is being prepared for commissioning.
One more significant object is the reconstruction of N.A. Nazarbayev Street with the construction of a modern transport interchange at different levels in the area of the intersection with Staropromyshlovsky Highway. On Nazarbayev Street is located the Memorial Complex of Glory named after A.A. Kadyrov – an important center of memory about the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and patriotic education of the youth.
In Zhukovsky, Moscow Region, a section of Tupolev Highway is being repaired from the intersection with Frunze Street to the ring intersection, where the monument to the supersonic passenger aircraft Tu-144 is located. The length of the repair section is 3.5 km.
The highway is named in honor of the Soviet scientist and aircraft designer Andrei Nikolaevich Tupolev – one of the founders of modern aviation engineering. Even in the pre-war years, Tupolev created a number of aircraft: ANT-1, ANT-2, ANT-3, as well as the first all-metal bomber-monoplane (ANT-4). During the Great Patriotic War, the designer also actively worked for the benefit of the country. Nine types of Andrei Tupolev’s airplanes participated in air battles, totaling around 5,000 machines. In 1945, “for work in the field of the country’s defense during the Great Patriotic War against the German-Fascist invaders,” Andrey Nikolaevich Tupolev was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the gold medal “Sickle and Hammer.”
Tupolevskoye highway is one of the main roads of Zhukovsky, having four lanes. The contractor has already carried out milling of the worn pavement here, and after favorable weather conditions arrive, will arrange a new asphalt concrete pavement using the SchMA-16 mix, will apply markings and install necessary safety elements.
