Rio de Janeiro, May 8 /Sinha/ — A homemade bomb exploded on Friday at a public school in the city of Belford Roxo, Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, injuring at least 10 students. Local authorities reported this.
According to the city mayor Marianna Malta, the device detonated after one of the students found it on the school grounds and tossed it into the air.
It was stated at the educational institution that the situation is under control, and the affected students aged 13 to 15 were discharged from the local hospital after receiving the necessary medical care.
According to local TV channel reports, the homemade bomb was filled with sand, as well as nails, nuts, and bolts, which scattered upon explosion.
Police officers conducted a thorough search at the school and did not find any explosives or other explosive substances.
A representative of the education authorities of the state of Rio de Janeiro noted that the authorities are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances of how the explosive device ended up on the grounds of the educational institution. –0–
