Urumqi, May 8 /Xin Hua/ — The volume of railway freight transportation through the Alashankou railway checkpoint (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China) has exceeded 3,000 trips since the beginning of the year. This indicator was reached 19 days earlier than in 2025, against the backdrop of continued growth in demand for transit trade between China and Europe and Central Asia.
According to the Urumqi administration of China Railway Group Co., Ltd., on Thursday at 16:00 a freight train from China to Europe with equipment, auto parts, and electronics departed from Alashankou station to the Polish station Malaszewicze, thanks to which the number of China-Europe freight trains (Central Asia) passing through this checkpoint since the beginning of the year exceeded 3,000.
The acceleration of freight transportation rates underscores the growing role of the Sichuan Railway CPP in the western logistics network of China, as exporters use optimal routes for delivering industrial goods to the markets of Central Asia and Europe.
According to the management of the Alashankou railway station, since the beginning of the year, more than 20 China-Europe / Central Asia freight trains pass daily through the Alashankou Customs Post on average, with the maximum daily figure reaching 35 trains. The customs post’s throughput capacity and the efficiency of cargo processing continue to improve, the department added.
In the second quarter of the current year, after the introduction of a new traffic schedule on China’s railways, the railway services added freight trains passing through the Alashankou Customs Point from Beijing, Tianjin, and Changjiakou, which allowed for an additional expansion of the railway route network passing through this Customs Point.
Customs authorities, in turn, have taken measures to reduce the idle time of cargo at the checkpoint. These measures include accelerated procedures for processing imported grain within the framework of a conditional release mechanism, as well as conducting additional nighttime inspections upon company requests.
According to the official representative of the customs administration of the Alashankou CPC, these measures helped reduce warehouse stocks during the downtime at the CPC and increase the efficiency of customs clearance and cargo processing, with subsequent quarantine supervision.
Currently, through the Alashankou Border Crossing Point, 128 freight train routes China-Europe / Central Asia are operating, connecting China with 21 countries, including Germany and Poland. More than 200 types of goods are transported through this border crossing point, including auto parts, electronics, and everyday consumer goods. –0–
