Almaty, May 8 /Xin Hua/ — On Friday, during the flight KZR921 on the Astana — Frankfurt route, an Airbus A321 aircraft of the Kazakh airline Air Astana made an emergency landing in the city of Aktobe in the west of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the press service of the country’s Ministry of Transport on Friday.

The decision to land at the alternate airfield was made after departing from Astana airport, when the aircraft crew declared a PAN-PAN distress signal due to the failure of one of the engines.

There were 93 passengers on board, including a quarter children and one infant, as well as nine crew members.

Landing at Aktobe airport took place as scheduled at 11:34 local time. The crew acted in accordance with the established procedures, after which the plane independently taxiied to the parking stand. Emergency rescue and ground airport services were activated to ensure safety.

The incident is related to a technical engine malfunction. According to authorities, there are no casualties or damage to the aircraft.

The incident was classified as a serious aviation incident; the investigation will be conducted by the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
