Beijing, May 8 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, a solemn event dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held at the Russian Cultural Center /RCC/ in Beijing.

The event included an exhibition of military technology models and a collection of Soviet postage stamps, a photo exhibition “Victory Parades”, a ceremony for the transfer of the “Flame of Memory”, and a festive concert.

The key event of the occasion was the patriotic action “Flame of Memory” by the People’s Front. For the first time, a particle of the sacred fire, lit from the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden in Moscow, was brought to the venue in the Chinese capital.

“Fire of Memory” was delivered to the RCC in Beijing by Russian theater and film actress and public figure Maria Kozhevnikova.

“It is impossible to convey in words the scale of the endured tragedy and the happiness of the long-awaited Victory in the Great Patriotic War, painfully experienced by our people,” said M. Kozhevnikova at the ceremony of passing the flame.

“For all of us, Victory Day is a sacred holiday. There is no family in Russia where a hero is not remembered, and each of us cherishes this memory,” he added, expressing hope that this “Fire of Memory” will become a symbol of indestructible friendship and shared memory for future generations.

The head of the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, Tatyana Urzhumtseva, noted that one of the most sacred symbols of the memory of the Russian people is the Eternal Flame. And to preserve this memory for future generations, to convey the truth about the war without falsifications and indifference, is a special and difficult mission. -0-
