On March 29, the traditional spring Open Day was held at Novosibirsk State University, which gathered schoolchildren and their parents from various regions of Russia — more than 2000 guests in total. Prospective students got acquainted with the areas of study, admission conditions, and were able to see the university from the inside — through communication with students, teachers, and staff members.

Opened the event, the rector of NGU, corresponding member of RASDmitry Pyshny. He noted that interest in the university remains consistently high:

Judging by the fact that the hall is full, people are really interested in what is happening with us. We will try to show that Novosibirsk State University is one of the best universities in the country.

The rector briefly talked about the history of NGU and its development. If in the early years there were about 1500 students and slightly more than 200 teachers at the university, today there are already about 8700 students and 2800 teachers. At the same time, a close connection with science remains an important feature.

More than 80% of the teachers are employees of the research institutes of Akademgorodok. They are at the forefront of science and understand what is truly in demand today.— notedDmitry Pyshny.

During a general meeting, prospective students were also told about the admission campaign. The responsible secretary of the admissions committee of NGUMarina Shashkovaemphasized that the university expects motivated and prepared students:

Our university has been noticed even on the global stage, and it is clear that it would not have become such if not for our children with you, whom you love from birth, nurture, educate and who achieve tremendous results. Further, within the walls of the university, your diamonds are transformed into diamonds.

In 2026, NSU is ready to admit 1390 applicants on budget-funded places and over 900 for paid education. Last year, more than 23 thousand applications were submitted to the university, with a 17% increase compared to 2024, confirming the high demand for NSU training programs.

Guests of the Open Day also had the opportunity at the exhibition to get acquainted with the faculties and institutes, where future applicants learned about the areas of study of interest in an interactive format.

So, in the direction of “Medical Cybernetics,” applicants were shown how modern technologies are applied in medicine, including for the development of prostheses and their components.

We develop our own materials for prosthetics instead of the usual silicone so that they are antibacterial and softer. We also engage in materials science and write articles on this subject. Everything we do is absolutely new. We have such a principle – to do what no one else does.

We collaborate with large companies on our developments. I myself work in a prosthetics company — we see people in need of prostheses, we know everything, and the pain, what they need and what they lack.– said a representative of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies of the NGUSofia.

At the “Psychology” direction site, students also shared the features of training. As a female student toldAnastasia, the first courses are devoted to basic training, and then a deepening in the chosen direction follows:

In the third course, we begin to delve more either into clinical or organizational psychology. This provides a good foundation for further professional development.

After the meeting with the rector and representatives of the admissions committee, all guests dispersed to the auditoriums to have more focused communication with the faculty representatives, to learn more about the education and ask interesting questions. Future applicants for the “Linguistics” program were reminded that the education requires serious involvement.

Mastering a language at a professional level requires regular and intensive work. This is not a theoretical subject that can be learned overnight,– noted the candidate of philosophical sciencesSergey Filippov.

Students-volunteers played a special role on Open Day, helping guests navigate the campus and answering questions. Thanks to this, participants were able to move freely between sites and form a complete picture of the university.

Event guests noted the high level of organization and the pleasant atmosphere at the university. Mama applicantIrina, arriving from Chita, shared her impressions:

Everything was organized at a high level, everything is clear. Students are helping everywhere, so it’s easy to navigate. We attended both the meeting with the rector and the interactive exhibition. We got a complete idea of the university, and it only got better. We saw a modern university with a strong teaching staff.

Open Day became an opportunity for prospective students not only to receive information about admissions but also to feel the atmosphere of the university — alive and engaging.

NGU continues to build a space in which education is inseparably linked with science, and students from the first year are involved in real research and practical projects. For many schoolchildren, such meetings as Open House Day become the first step towards a conscious choice of future profession and place where this path will begin.
