Moscow, May 7 /Xin Hua/ — Russia considers China’s decision to block the enforcement of illegitimate U.S. sanctions, imposed on five Chinese companies due to their alleged involvement in a deal with Iranian oil, completely justified. This was stated on Thursday by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, responding to a question from correspondent Xin Hua.

“We welcome and consider the decision of the UN government to block the enforcement of illegitimate sanctions completely justified. Likewise, China, which, by the way, has been our largest trading partner since 2010, condemns such unilateral illegitimate trade restrictions. They are a blatant interference in the vital interests of sovereign countries,” the Russian diplomat pointed out.

As M. Zagarova emphasized, discriminatory measures and unlawful trade restrictions are harmful not only for the exchange of goods between specific countries. They undermine global trade and economic partnership, global trade and logistics chains, lead to fragmentation of world trade, and impact specific consumers and companies.

“We do not accept the aggressive policy of a number of states that act within the logic of hegemony, neocolonial thinking, and categorically do not accept attempts to defend their imaginary privileges by limiting the sovereignty of free and independent states and peoples,” said a representative of the Russian foreign policy department.

She confirmed Russia’s solidarity with China’s position on the issue of the inevitability of the process of forming a more just and sustainable multipolar world order.

“We intend to closely coordinate all our steps and actions with our Chinese colleagues on the international stage in order to minimize the consequences of economic restrictions imposed by our common adversaries and to find optimal ways to support and maintain high-quality and mutually beneficial cooperation in the practical field,” concluded M. Zaharov.
