Jerusalem, May 7 /Sina/ — Israeli military announced on Thursday that Malek Balut, commander of the special unit “Radwan” of the “Hezbollah” movement, was killed as a result of an airstrike on Beirut earlier that day.
As noted, he died in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.
The group “Hezbollah” has not yet confirmed this information.
M. Balut headed the special unit “Radvan,” which carried out dozens of attacks against Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon, including the use of anti-tank missiles and explosive devices, announced the Israeli army. He also led the work on restoring the unit.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Katz jointly stated that the purpose of the airstrike on Beirut was the assassination of M. Balut. No information was given about his political condition.
This strike was the first registered Israeli attack on Beirut since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon came into force on April 16. Israeli forces remain in southern Lebanon, where fighting continues. –0–
