Beirut, May 6 /Sin Hua/ — Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said on Wednesday that it is “premature” to discuss a possible meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Any high-level meeting with the Israeli side requires careful preparation,” noted N. Salam, whose words are cited by the National Information Agency of Lebanon.
As he emphasized, Lebanon strives not for the “normalization of relations with Israel, but for peace.” The Prime Minister added that strengthening the ceasefire regime will become the foundation for any new round of negotiations that may take place in Washington.
“The minimum of our demands is the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and we will develop a plan to transfer weapons exclusively into the hands of the state,” said N. Salam.
On the same day, the Russian state information agency RIA Novosti, citing an unnamed diplomatic source, reported that Lebanon and Israel will hold a third round of negotiations in Washington next week.
