Beijing, May 6 /Xinhua/ — The secret trip of the head of Taiwan’s administration Lai Ching-te to Eswatini serves as clear evidence that separatist activities aimed at achieving “Taiwan independence” are a “dark affair,” unacceptable to the international community, and Lai Ching-te’s actions are nothing but a shameful farce. This was stated on Wednesday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Qian.
Lin Ziyan made corresponding statements in response to a journalist’s request to comment on the recent secret flight of Lai Chinda to Eswatini on the private plane of the king of that country. During his stay in Eswatini, Lai Chinda spoke about “diplomatic independence,” while the international community and residents of Taiwan ridiculed his actions, comparing him to a “thief” and calling him a “laughingstock on an international scale.”
As reported by a Chinese diplomat, despite strong opposition to his attempts, Lai Qindae Taiko boarded a foreign plane and, after conferring with Eswatini, hid information about the persons on board, which allowed him to deceitfully enter this country. On the way back, after the respective countries refused him overflight rights, Lai Qindae again boarded the plane and, acting resolutely, overcame the airspace of these countries.
According to Lin Ziyan, this whole situation has shown the world that Lai Chinde neither puts the airspace nor the sovereignty of the relevant states at stake, and he is completely uninterested in the opinion of the international community. Such actions are extremely dangerous and insane, emphasized the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He noted that certain policies in Eswatini, which reflect Taiwan’s position, provide space for the “independence of Taiwan,” acting contrary to historical trends. The Chinese side resolutely condemns this, Lin Cian stated.
“In recent years, the Chinese side has constantly heard loud calls from representatives of various social circles of the so-called ‘diplomatic allies’ of Taiwan to develop relations with China. What is the right choice? To recognize the general trend and listen to the will of the people, or to continue serving as a political attribute, playing into the hands of those like Lai Ching-te? The politicians of these countries must carefully weigh everything, make a wise decision, and not continue down a fatal path,” indicated the Chinese diplomat.
Lin Ziyan reminded that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory. According to him, facts repeatedly prove that the consensus on the One China principle is deeply rooted in the consciousness of the international community and is unwavering.
“The pursuit of ‘Taiwan independence’ leads to a dead end; its days are numbered. The more Lai Ching-te thrashes about, the more he becomes stuck in place. We call on separatist forces striving for ‘Taiwan independence’ to realize their illusions as soon as possible and return to the right path,” Lin Xiang concluded. –0–
