Beijing, May 6 /Xin Hua/ — Chinese border control services recorded 11.279 million border crossings by Chinese and foreign citizens during the May Day holidays, which lasted from May 1 to 5 — an average of about 2.26 million per day, which is 3.5 percent higher compared to the same period last year. This was reported on Wednesday by the State Administration of Migration Affairs of the PRC.
According to the data from the agencies, the peak value occurred on May 2, when the number of border crossings reached almost 2.53 million.
The number of crossings of the Chinese border by foreigners during the 5-day holiday amounted to 1.255 million, which is 12.5 percent more on an annual basis. At the same time, the number of visa-free entries increased by 14.7 percent, reaching 436 thousand.
During this time, border control service officers conducted 531 thousand inspections of entering and exiting vehicles, which is 16.6% higher than last year’s figure for the same period. -0-
