Hohhot, April 2 /Xinhua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, the number of freight trains from China to Europe passing through the Erenhot Railway Hub of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (Northern China) increased by 22.3 percent year-on-year to 1,145, setting a record high compared to the same period in previous years. This was reported on Thursday by the Hohhot branch of the corporation “China Railway” (CR).

Er’en-Hoto CPPP is a key node in the central corridor of the China-Europe international rail freight transportation, as well as in the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor.

In the first three months of this year, 110,200 standard containers /TEU/ with 946,400 tons of cargo were transported by China-Europe trains passing through this border crossing, which is 14.6% and 19.7% more, respectively, than in the same period last year.

“Relying on the ‘Digital Checkpoint’ system serving rail freight transportation, we continue to promote paperless customs clearance, strengthen informational interconnection with customs, border, and other agencies, in order to significantly reduce the customs clearance time for China-Europe trains and improve operational efficiency,” reported the CR Corporation’s Huhhot branch.

After the launch in January of this year of the new rail route as part of China-Europe cargo transportation, which connected the station of the Weicai village in the city of Changzhi, Shanxi Province (Northern China) with the Russian railway station Solombalko, the number of China-Europe rail routes passing through the Er’an-Khoto checkpoint has increased to 75. They cover more than 70 hub stations in over 10 countries, including Germany and Poland. -0-
