Beijing, April 2 /Xin Hua/ — China is ready to cooperate with Bahrain in order to promote the cessation of war, the restoration of peace, and the achievement of lasting stability in the Middle East. This was stated on Thursday by a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, head of the Chinese MFA Wang Yi during a telephone conversation with the Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdellatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The conversation took place at the initiative of Manama.
Abdel Latif ben Rashed al-Zayani, currently the Chairman of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf /GCC/, informed the Chinese minister about recent events in the Middle East and Bahrain’s position. He noted that the Gulf countries are now facing serious security problems, and the Hormuz Strait is blocked for shipping.
The Basra governor, using the UN Security Council platform, promoted the issue of opening the strait, the minister announced, expressing hope for strengthening contacts and coordination with the KN.
Van I, in turn, clearly set out China’s fundamental position on countering aggression and defending peace.
He noted that China and Pakistan recently put forward a five-point initiative for the restoration of peace and stability in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, which includes calls to stop attacks on civilians and civilian facilities, ensure the security of the Hormuz Strait, and restore normal shipping.
“A ceasefire and cessation of hostilities is what the entire international community jointly strives for,” said Van I. The UN Security Council should contribute to the reduction of tension and the cessation of war to resume negotiations, and not approve illegal military actions, let alone add fuel to the fire, he emphasized.
Being a permanent member of the Security Council and a responsible major power, China is ready to cooperate with Bashrein to contribute to the cessation of hostilities, restoration of peace, achievement of lasting regional stability, and protection of the lawful rights and interests of the countries of the Global South, especially small and medium-sized ones, declared Wan I.
