Washington, April 29 /Xinhua/ — US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that the maritime blockade of Iran will continue until Tehran agrees to a deal with Washington regarding its nuclear program.

“A blockade is in some sense more effective than bombings,” said D. Trump in a phone interview with the American portal Axios, emphasizing that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.

According to him, Iran is striving to reach an agreement to lift the blockade.

“They will definitely come to an agreement. They will not agree for me to lift the blockade. And I do not want to / lift the blockade /, because I do not want them to have nuclear weapons,” said the head of the US administration.

At the moment, D. Trump considers continuing the blockade his main leverage of pressure, but he is ready to consider the possibility of military actions if Iran does not make concessions, Axios notes.

The US Central Command has prepared a plan for a series of “short and powerful” strikes against Iran in the hope of bringing talks out of a deadlock, Axios reports, citing informed sources. –0–
