Tashkent, April 29 /Xin Hua/ — Fergana International Airport will be comprehensively modernized to expand its throughput capacity and improve service standards. This was reported on Tuesday on the official website of the President of Uzbekistan following the results of the head of state’s visit to the region.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the concept of airport development in the city during a trip to the Fergana region. The project is aimed at replacing infrastructure that has been in operation for more than 30 years with new passenger and cargo terminals that will meet international technical standards.

Modernization involves the construction of a new passenger terminal, which will allow doubling the throughput capacity to 1,200 passengers per hour. It is also planned to extend the runway and create additional parking spaces, enabling the simultaneous servicing of up to 10 aircraft.

It is expected that the implementation of the project will strengthen the transport connectivity of the Fergana Valley and enhance the role of the region as an important logistics center.
