Saint Petersburg, April 29 /Sinhua/ — The Pskov region of Russia has great potential for interaction and cooperation with China, said the governor of the region, Mikhail Vedernikov, on Tuesday in Pskov during a meeting with the Consul General of the PRC in Saint Petersburg, Luo Changxue.
M. Vedernikov thanked the Consul General for the visit to Pskov and sincere attention to the Russian region: “We are separated by almost 5 thousand sq. km. Nevertheless, we see great potential for our interaction and cooperation. Since 2021, foreign trade turnover has increased fivefold. Negotiations are currently underway on the opening of a peat enterprise with the participation of Chinese partners. The tourist flow is still small, but comparing 2024 with last year, it has grown by 26%. We are open to cooperation,” he said.
The unique historical and cultural heritage of the Pskov region attracted the attention of the Chinese delegation. For the purpose of strengthening and developing cooperation in the field of tourism, M. Vedernikov proposed to hold a presentation of the potential of the Pskov region for Chinese tour operators based on online platforms.
According to the Consul General of China in St. Petersburg, Luo Zhansuoyei, the Pskov region has a number of advantages. He noted that in this border region there are strong managerial capabilities and a stable market environment. “The Consulate General intends to play the role of a bridge so that Pskov and Chinese partners get to know each other. Following agreements at the leadership level, I am working on developing bilateral cooperation and planning, with your support, to develop collaboration in all areas,” said Luo Zhansuoyei.
