Minsk, April 29 /Xin Hua/ — At the Belarus-Poland border at the “Pererov — Bialowieza” checkpoint on Tuesday, the Committee for State Security /KGB/ of Belarus and the Polish Foreign Intelligence Agency carried out an exchange of five persons convicted in Belarus and Russia of espionage for five citizens detained in the territories of various EU countries and other states. The corresponding information was published by the KGB of Belarus on Tuesday.

Among those returned to Belarusian territory are citizens of Belarus, Russia, and other CIS countries. All of them were provided with necessary primary medical and domestic assistance. The KGB of Belarus prepared the exchange operation under the directive of the Belarusian president for about a year; special services and representatives of seven countries were involved in its elaboration, which required lengthy and complex negotiations.

The KGB of Belarus expresses gratitude and notes the special contribution of the FSB of Russia in implementing activities, the high level of interaction with the leadership and personnel of the Russian special service in resolving the most complex issues that arose during the preparation of the operation, thanks to which a positive result was achieved. –0–
