In the capital’s center for additional education, more than four thousand choreographic clubs operate. Over 80 thousand schoolchildren participate in them. Children take part in competitions and appear in films dedicated to dance, featuring famous actors. This was reported by the press service.Department of Education and Science of Moscow.

“At the center for additional education, both classical dance styles are open, for example, waltz, as well as modern ones, including bachata and K-pop. Young Muscovites can try themselves in more than 12 dance styles: folk, ballroom, ballet, jazz-modern, contemporary, step, hip-hop, jazz-funk, vogue, house, breakdance, and others,” the department’s press service said.

In the modern dance studio “Step Forward” of the Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth “Na Stopani,” both two-year-old toddlers and 18-year-old youths study. In particular, here they study hip-hop, contemporary, jazz-funk, and house dance styles. The studio’s groups regularly perform in films and TV series. For example, the kids danced in the comedy directed by Irina Borovskaya “Rhythms of a Dream” with actors Igor Vernik, Stanislav Yarushin, and Ekaterina Vilkova, as well as in the comedy by Ilya Belov “#SHKL” with Egor Druzhinin, Anna Khilkevich, and Tatyana Orlova.

“During the filming of the movie ‘Rhythms of a Dream,’ I experienced a full spectrum of positive emotions! Dancing on the set together with my team is a completely special feeling. We were not just a team, but a united whole along with the film crew. I felt immense pride for my team, seeing how cohesively and professionally we worked together. Each of us put our soul into the dance, and this energy created a powerful atmosphere. It was exciting, but this excitement was pleasant!” — shared Yulia Mialeva — a senior group trainee at the contemporary dance studio ‘Step Forward.’

In the Moscow Palace of Pioneers, where about three thousand children take dance classes, nine dance studios have been opened, including sections for sports ballroom dances and dance sport, modern, folk and classical dance. Many ensembles have been working for decades. For example, the V.S. Loktev Song and Dance Ensemble has existed since 1937. It is a creative association where song, orchestra, and choreography operate in symbiosis. Over the years of its operation, the ensemble has produced more than 100,000 students.

The section of sports ballroom dances has been open since 1980. During this time, it has trained about nine thousand dancers, among whom are champions and prize-winners of Russian competitions. Many of the graduates have returned to the palace already in the role of coaches. For example, Moscow champions and two-time Russian champions in 10 dances among amateurs and professionals Aleksandr and Inna Gorelovy, bronze medalists of the Russian championship in dance multiathlon among professionals Dmitry Polikarpov. Some graduates of the Moscow Pioneer Palace ensemble “Comics”, whose history spans two decades, have connected their professional lives with dance. Thus, Pavel Zachinyaev became an artist of the National Russian ballet “Renaissance”, Elizaveta and Darya Kayumova dance in the ballet troupe of the Moscow Theatre of Illusion.

In the House of Children’s Creativity in Taganka, children are taught ballroom and modern dances. There are a total of five studios operating there, many of which are considered benchmarks in the professional community. For example, the choreographic studio “Briz” holds the title of the leading creative team in Moscow. Its graduates dance in well-known dance groups, for example in the troupe of the “Kremlin Ballet” theater. The studio’s pupils continue to learn to dance even as adults. For instance, they enter the Moscow State Academy of Choreography or the choreographic college “School of Classical Dance” of Gennady Ledei.

The “Khoroshevo” Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth hosts eight dance groups, each specializing in its own genre. Thus, the palace’s students study ballroom, pop, folk dances, breakdance, hip-hop, K-pop, cover dances, as well as dance theater—a direction that combines theatrical art and choreography.

“More than 50 talented kids, who once stood at the choreographic barre in the hall of the ‘Khoroshevo’ palace, are now confidently following a professional path and achieving success in the world of dance. Graduates have become choreographers and artists whose names already resonate on the stages of Russia.”The guys continued to hone their skills at the country’s leading specialized educational institutions: they enrolled in the State Academic Igor Moiseyev Folk Dance Ensemble, the Moscow State Choreographic School named after L.M. Lavrovsky, the Chelyabinsk Institute of Culture, the Moscow Provincial College, the Gennady Ledyaev Choreographic College, and the Moscow State Institute of Culture,” said Evgeny Bondarenko, teacher-organizer of the “Khoroshevo” Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth.

In the center for children’s and youth creativity “Bibirevo,” there are 10 creative groups that teach acrobatic rock and roll, sports ballroom dancing, pop, folk, and classical dances. In the classes, children develop a sense of rhythm, coordination, self-confidence, and also become more flexible and artistic; many continue their training in their field, working in professional groups. The particular pride of the center is the teachers. They are graduates of choreographic groups who continue their professional path within the walls of their alma mater.

In the capital, children are provided with opportunities to develop in choreographic art. Thus, in 2024, the “Pulsation” project was created in Moscow. Its framework includes street dance battles, lectures, master classes, public talks by leading choreographers-teachers, online master classes on modern choreography, a dance flash mob, and the contemporary dance festival “Pulse.” This year, about nine thousand Muscovites danced at the festival, performing modern, sports, pop, folk dances, circus acrobatics acts, and rock and roll.
