Moscow and the Moscow Region have approved the regulations for servicing routes between the capital and the Moscow suburbs. Buses will run more frequently, stops will be more modern, and the infrastructure will be more convenient.

“Following the instructions of Sergey Sobyanin, together with the Government of the Moscow Region, last year we began integrating suburban routes into the Moscow transport system. The large-scale project is aimed at improving the comfort of bus transportation in the largest agglomeration of our country. Over this past period, together with our colleagues from the Moscow region, we have already launched 35 routes, updated more than 40 bus stops in the region, five parking and turning areas, as well as road markings on 35 sections,” added

Maksim Liksutov.

The regulations provide for ensuring convenient transport communication between two regions, integration of at least a third of all suburban routes into the Moscow transport system, compliance with the schedule and a high level of the technical condition of buses, the appearance of more spacious vehicles where possible.

In addition, unified standards for servicing stops are being introduced in the territory of the capital and the Moscow region. They include maintaining the sanitary and technical condition of the stop pavilions and their renovation when necessary, as well as improving the infrastructure of surface transport in the Moscow region (new stops, dedicated lanes, bus layover and turnaround areas, road signs, markings, and road pavement).

Development of communication between Moscow and the region

By agreement between the governments of Moscow and the Moscow region, in 2026 it is planned to include more than 50 existing suburban routes in the metropolitan transport system in the western, northwestern, northern, and northeastern directions.

By 2028, a third of the currently operating suburban ground public transport routes are planned to be included in the Moscow transport system.

Standards of Moscow transport, already familiar to city residents, are being implemented on this route. They provide a comfortable schedule, convenient and predictable bus intervals, modern rolling stock, as well as qualified personnel.

For route operations, more than 500 modern buses of various capacity classes were purchased last year: medium, large, as well as large suburban modifications. They are already deployed both on new routes and on the routes of the “Moscow — Region” project, which were opened last year.

Modern large-class buses of the LIAZ “Citymax-12” and NEFAZ-5299 types, including those with more comfortable seat arrangements for long-distance trips, as well as mid-class buses “Citymax-9” and KAMAZ-4290, will be brought into the city.

In addition to improving the comfort of transportation, the appearance of new adjacent interregional routes will give an additional impetus to the development of transport infrastructure in the Moscow region, including the installation of modern bus stop pavilions, the arrangement of dedicated lanes, the creation and reconstruction of existing transport hubs, as well as increased use of various types of urban transport for daily trips from the Moscow suburbs to Moscow and back. The rolling stock freed up by the regional carrier will be redirected to strengthen routes running through the territory of the Moscow region to stationsMoscow Central Diameters.

LIAZ model “Citymax-12” of the large class

The bus features an increased floor area of up to 13.6 square meters with a low level in the cabin. In addition, its doorways, aisles between seats, and the accumulation platform have been expanded thanks to new structural solutions of the body. This significantly facilitates the boarding and alighting of passengers.

Modern composite materials are used in the manufacture of the body, which ensure lightness of the structure, high strength, and full resistance to corrosion, as well as contribute to reducing noise levels during the ride. Thanks to the expanded glazing area, a large amount of light enters the cabin and provides a good view for all passengers, while green and red lighting on the doors warns about opening and closing.

The bus is designed for 109 passengers. Its cabin is equipped with a dual-zone climate control system, as well as USB ports for charging mobile devices. For people with limited mobility, a low-floor entrance without steps is provided, along with a mechanically folding ramp, a spacious waiting area with handrails, and a special place for a wheelchair. The innovative kneeling system tilts the bus toward the doors at the stop, simplifying boarding and alighting. Thanks to the clean floor system, any fixings on its surface are eliminated, making it easier for passengers to move around and for cleaning the cabin.

Citymax-9 medium-class bus

The comfortable “Citymax-9” bus is designed to operate on narrow streets through which large-class vehicles cannot pass. Among its advantages are a capacity of up to 77 people, a low-floor area of 10 square meters (the largest in its class), two wide doors that allow passengers to board and alight faster, seats and handrails attached to the side of the body, which do not obstruct movement inside the cabin.

The bus is also equipped with a kneeling system that tilts the vehicle towards the doors, facilitating boarding and alighting. Accessibility for passengers with limited mobility is ensured by a low floor without steps, mechanical equipment, a spacious accumulation platform with lumbar supports, and a specially equipped place for a wheelchair.

KamAZ-4290 of the medium class

This transport can carry up to 70 people at the same time. The bus has a low floor level at the entrance, an accumulation area, a folding ramp, and spaces for passengers with reduced mobility. It is also equipped with USB ports for charging phones and bright media screens.

NEFAZ-5299-31-52 large class in suburban complex

New modern buses NEFAZ-5299-31-52 of the large class in a special suburban configuration are distinguished by improved interior equipment for long-distance trips. Among the advantages are 36 soft seats with seat belts, adaptive interior lighting, climate control system, special seats and equipment for passengers with limited mobility.

Buses fully comply with Moscow transport standards, adapted for transporting bicycles and baby strollers. You can also charge your phone there. Information about the stop is available on the media screen. You can leave feedback about the trip using QR codes in the cabin.

A total of 100 NEFAZ-5299 suburban modification buses will arrive in the capital to operate on these routes.

KamAZ-5299 large class in urban equipment

Earlier, the technology successfully proved itself on the city route. Already about two thousand buses operate in the Mosgortrans fleet. Among the advantages are 31 seats, seating capacity for up to 109 people, a low-floor cabin, a folding apparatus, and a special area for passengers with limited mobility, availability of a modern climate control system, and adaptive cabin lighting.

A total of 233 vehicles of this model will be delivered to the Mosgortrans fleet for suburban route trips this year.

Convenient payment for travel

The cost of travel on the route is approximately the same as it was before. You can find information about the cost of travel on each of the routes on the special page of the unified transport portal.t.mos.ru/mo.

In addition, “Unified” travel tickets without a limit on the number of trips with the “Suburban” zone are valid on the route: for 30 days — costing 4450 rubles, for 90 days — 11,400 rubles, for 365 days — 33,200 rubles. This is a cost-effective payment method: passengers can save up to 60 percent per year and transfer free of charge to all city transport — the metro, Moscow central diameters,Moscow Central Ring, city bus and electric bus routes, other suburban routes of the ‘Moscow — region’ project, as well as year-round river electric vessels.

To provide social support for schoolchildren, Muscovite cards for students are in use — travel tickets “Unified” for 30 (1390 rubles) and 90 days (3960 rubles) with the “Suburb” zone. Preferential categories of citizens will be able to use free travel with the Muscovite card and residents of the Moscow region on an analogy with the capital’s city routes. In addition, free travel on all adjacent routes between Moscow and the Moscow region is provided to preferential categories of citizens of the Moscow region, persons under 60 years old with the right to free travel on regional routes.
