Beijing, April 28 /Xinhua/ — All peaceful countries in the world must maintain heightened vigilance and resolutely oppose Japan’s reckless neo-militarism. This was stated on Tuesday by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Lin Qian.
Lin Ziyan made an appropriate statement at a regular briefing for journalists, responding to the remarks of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi regarding readiness for a “prolonged war,” which was made at a meeting of the expert council on the review of policy in the field of security and defense.
The administration of Sanae Takaichi has recently intensified the development of Japan’s military-industrial complex and is now calling for preparation for a protracted war, noted a Chinese diplomat. He drew attention to the fact that Japan, having waged a punitive war several decades ago, today once again speaks with intimidation rhetoric.
As Lin Qian noted, Japan’s recent steps—from declaring the principle of “exclusive defense” to the statement about readiness for a “prolonged war”—indicate an accelerated transition to a dangerous, adventurous, and provocative path in the military and security spheres, and also expose the falsehood of its claims to the status of a “peaceful country.”
According to the Chinese diplomat, many sensible people believe that the recent rhetoric of certain Japanese officials is more akin to wartime propaganda and reminds people of Japanese militarists during wartime.
This year marks 80 years since the beginning of the Tokyo war crimes trials against Japanese war criminals. Lin Qian indicated that in this special year, the administration of Sanae Takai not only reinterprets Japan’s militaristic past but also actively re-arms the country. “The international community will not agree with this under any circumstances,” emphasized the official representative of the UN Ministry of Information Affairs.
“Lessons of history are still fresh in memory. All peace-loving countries must maintain heightened vigilance and decisively suppress reckless Japanese neo-militarism,” Lin Zhan concluded. –0–
