Washington, April 28 /Xinhua/ — US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday on social media that Iran is wrong for the United States to open the Strait of Hormuz.
In his post, D. Trump also stated that, as the Iranian side itself acknowledges, Iran is on the verge of “collapse.” However, it remains unclear how the American president could receive such a message from Iran.
Meanwhile, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated the same day that it is not necessary for ship operators to neutralize all mines, presumably laid in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Only a passage is needed for the movement of vessels there and back. I think this can be done quickly,” said K. Wright to the information agency Bloomberg.
According to American media citing several White House officials, D. Trump is not satisfied with Iran’s latest peaceful proposal, which involves opening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the maritime blockade of Iranian ports by the United States, leaving the issue of Iran’s nuclear program for subsequent negotiations.
