Education that works for the result

All our educational programs are practice-oriented. We have functioning5At the basic department jointly with leading organizations: the Institute of Oil and Gas Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the FAO NIA Accreditation, the VNIICR Rosselskhoznadzor, the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the PPK “Russian Ecological Operator.” This means that our students already solve real tasks during their training and gain experience where the country’s future is being created and its ecological well-being is ensured.

World-class personnel training: the example of Ghana

In 2024, the Institute of Ecology developed and launched two master’s programs in English for students from Ghana. The largest waste management operator in Ghana — the Jospong group of companies — sent 30 employees to the Institute of Ecology for training in two master’s programs: “Integrated Solid Waste Management” and “Climate Project Management.”

Based on the Institute of Ecology of RUDN, 54 specialized employees from 20 municipal assemblies of Bolshoy Akkra underwent advanced training in the field of sustainable urban development and solid waste management.

International recognition and cooperation

The Institute of Ecology has more than 30 foreign partner universities. More than 30 scientists and over 60 students from the department annually participate in academic mobility programs at leading universities in Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the CIS.

Over 100 students from partner universities receive training annually, participate in summer/winter schools and events at the Institute of Ecology.

RUDN twice made it to the shortlist of the International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) in 2021 with a program on sustainable development management, and in 2024 — with a program on managing sustainable development of cities and climate resilience. Both programs were developed by the Institute of Ecology. Leading universities from the USA and Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia participated in the competition. In 2021, 13 students underwent training in the programs, in 2024 — 25.

Every year, the institute conducts more than 5 seasonal (summer, autumn, winter, spring) schools on current issues of environmental protection and sustainable development. The schools bring together leading world experts and students, allowing them to jointly seek solutions to environmental problems such as climate change, resource depletion, waste management, etc. Participation in such a program gives students a unique opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge, study innovative approaches, and establish international cooperation, which is extremely important for future specialists in the field of sustainable development.Geography of participants: Tunisia, Iran, Belarus, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, PRC, India, Brazil, South Africa.

The coordination of the “Ecology” direction within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University is also the responsibility of the Institute of Ecology. Within the SCO University, 5 dual degree programs are implemented. Representatives of the institute — including members of the international thematic groups “Ecology and Climate Change” and “Energy” within the framework of the BRIKS Network University. Every year, within the framework of this network university, joint scientific and technical events are held with partner universities, autumn schools are conducted, and programs of academic mobility for students and teachers are implemented.

The Institute of Ecology of RUDN is a global center of attraction for those who want to change the world for the better. Congratulations to the staff and students on the unit’s birthday!
