Beijing, April 28 /Xinhua/ — Chinese authorities announced on Tuesday the expansion of the zero-tariff import customs duty regime starting May 1, 2026, and its extension to all African countries that have diplomatic relations with the PRC.
According to the notification of the Committee on Customs Duties under the State Council of the PRC, from May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2028, China will provide a zero-duty regime in the form of a preferential tariff rate to 20 African countries that have established diplomatic relations with the PRC and are not classified as least developed countries.
Since December 1, 2024, China has already implemented zero customs duties for 100 percent of the commodity items from 33 least developed African countries with which it has diplomatic relations.
With the introduction of an expanded customs policy, China will become the first of the world’s major economies to provide a unilateral and comprehensive zero-tariff import customs duty regime for all African countries and all least developed countries with which the PRC has established diplomatic relations. –0–
