Moscow, April 27 /Xinhua/ — Cinema is an instrument of cultural diplomacy and strengthening dialogue between Russia and China. This was stated on Tuesday by the RF Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, who visited the shooting pavilion of the new Russian-Chinese detective film “Black Silk” — a continuation of the story told in the movie “Red Silk.”
“Cinema is a tool of cultural diplomacy and strengthening dialogue between countries, and ‘Red Silk’ is a vivid example of this. I am confident that many new bright joint multi-genre projects await us ahead. ‘Black Silk’ will also become an important continuation of the cooperation between filmmakers of Russia and China,” said O. Lyubimova.
The minister drew attention to the rapid growth of the technological level of the Russian film industry, which in many ways became possible thanks to joint work with Chinese colleagues. “Literally 10 years ago, it was difficult to imagine such a level of work in Russian cinema,” she noted.
Together with the minister, the pavilion was visited by Svetlana Balanova, General Director of the Russian media holding “National Media Group.” A detailed tour of the site was organized for the guests, and they were told about the production of paintings. Special attention was paid to the large-scale decorations: a passenger liner and a gigantic airship. The project team demonstrated unique technical solutions.
As S. Balanova emphasized, Russian-Chinese film production is an important focal direction for the development of relations between the two countries.
“Red Silk,” the first part of the story, a year ago became not only a cultural but also a socio-political event. Now the film “Black Silk” has also received the status of a joint production, she noted.
Actors from Russia, China, Japan, Serbia were involved in the filming, which makes the cast one of the most representative in the history of Chinese-Russian cinema. “This is a larger-scale, more ambitious film with an amazing, one of the largest, international star cast,” noted S. Balanova.
The screenwriter Maria Nefedova said that one of the main motives for her was the desire to show the Russian viewer the true story of China.
“Russia and China have a long history of good neighborly relations. We have together endured many hardships and stood shoulder to shoulder. We can together show how we support each other,” the screenwriter emphasized.
