London, April 27 /Xin Hua/ — A vote will be held in the British Parliament on conducting a parliamentary investigation into the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer. It is claimed that he misled deputies regarding the candidacy of the former British Ambassador to the USA, Peter Mandelson. This was announced on Monday by the Speaker of the British House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle.

According to L. Hoil, on April 28 there will be debates and a vote in parliament on the advisability of referring this issue to the House of Commons Privileges Committee for further investigation.

According to the media, the Prime Minister’s office rejected the Conservative Party’s proposal for a vote, calling it a “desperate political trick” and adding that the Conservatives’ claims were “devoid of any substance.”

As became known in mid-April, the appointment of Ambassador P. Mandelson in January 2025 was denied access to classified information following a procedure of enhanced vetting that involved a confidential review of his biographical data by security service officers. Nevertheless, the corresponding decision was overturned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom.

While K. Starmer admitted that he learned about this situation only on April 14, calling it “completely unacceptable,” the leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, in turn accused him of violating the ministerial code due to untimely informing the parliament about the scandal related to the investigation of P. Mandelson.

P. Mandelson was dismissed from the post of head of the British diplomatic mission in Washington in September 2025 after it was revealed that he had friendly ties with Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual exploitation of minors.

Earlier this year, P. Mandelson was briefly detained as part of a criminal investigation that was initiated in connection with suspicions of his commission of official offenses, including the possible disclosure of confidential market information. –0–
