Tehran, April 27 /Xinhua/ — The Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahimi Azizi, stated that the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces is designated as responsible for the security structure of the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with the draft parliamentary plan to ensure the security of this waterway.
E. Azizi reported this in an interview to the state TV channel IRIB TV, explaining the provisions of the final draft of the “Strategic Action Plan to Ensure Security and Progress in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf,” which must be submitted for voting in the country’s legislative body.
A lawmaker clarified that the plan includes about 11 articles and is aimed at restricting the passage of hostile ships through the strait, completely prohibiting any vessels associated with Israel from moving through it.
“According to the plan, it is assumed that financial flows from the Strait will be received in the Iranian national currency — the rial,” clarified E. Azizi.
He also noted that all those organizations, governments, and countries that have caused losses and damage to Iran in recent years, have blocked Iranian assets or taken hostile actions against it, must pay compensation.
E. Azizi reported that the Iranian armed forces already exercise full and well-considered control over the strait in accordance with orders received from the highest Iranian authorities. According to him, the parliamentary plan was developed based on measures proposed by Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who personally emphasized the necessity of introducing a new order for managing the Hormuz Strait.
