On April 26, the final competitions in information security “Cybernsk-2026” took place at the Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) among higher education institutions. As a result of the competition, the team from Novosibirsk State University (NSU) took third place. The top three leaders also included teams from the Higher School of Economics and the National Research University “MISiS.”
The final took place as part of the All-Russian event “Spring of Trust — 2026”, which combined competitions, conferences, and master classes in the field of IT and cybersecurity. 120 teams from 25 cities of Russia, as well as from Belarus and China, participated in the qualifying stage. 21 teams made it to the onsite final.
NGU was represented by students at the competitionFaculty of Information Technologies (FIT)ÂYan Dushkin, Georgy Vinokurov, Aleksey Vishnevskiy, Timur GunkoиStudent of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty (MMF) Daniil Fulfman.
The competition was held in the Attack/Defence format: teams simultaneously searched for vulnerabilities in the opponents’ service, developed exploits, and defended their own infrastructure.
Novosibirsk State University is known for its victories in competitions in the field of information security (CTF). Many of those who previously participated in such contests are now teachers and trainers; they are well acquainted with this format and professionally prepare teams for competitions.
This time a young team participated in the competition, for which competitions of such a high level became a new experience.
—Our team participated in Attack/Defence for the first time. It was awesome that we made it to the finals. And even cooler, that in the final we entered the top 3 among 21 university teams from all over Russia. We worked as a whole team. We fixed vulnerabilities, wrote exploits, set up and maintained our infrastructure., — saysGeorgiy Vinokurov, graduate student of FIT NSU.
The key moment of the competition was the final stage, where the fate of the prize places was decided. It turned out to be the most intense.
—We have had infrastructure failures many times, the last hour became decisive for us — in it we managed to reach third place. The result was quite unexpected for us, there were ups and downs, at the beginning of the competition we had significant problems with infrastructure setup, but when it started working, we sharply went up. Closer to the end, according to our assumption, a DDoS attack began on us, but it did not prevent us from standing firm., — shares impressionsYan Dushkin, 4th-year student of FIT NSU.
Participation in “CyberNsk” confirmed a high level of training of NSU students in the field of information security and their readiness to work in real conditions of cyber threats.
The prize-winning students thank the team coach, FIT teacher of NSU Roman Konstantinovich Lebedev, as well as the organizers of the competition.
CTF “Kibernsk” is an all-Russian competition in information security, organized by the Siberian Security League, NGTU NETI and SGGTIT with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Novosibirsk Region and the Russian Federation sports programming program.
