Tehran/Muscat, April 26 /Xinhua/ — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Sunday for the second time in approximately 24 hours, after previously visiting Oman briefly amid increased diplomatic activity around a near ceasefire in the region. This was reported by the Iranian news agency Mehr.

According to a statement by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Oman A. Aragchi met with Sultan Haisam bin Tarek Al Said. During the conversation, the Iranian diplomat stated that, as demonstrated by the 40-day war of his country with the United States and Israel, the American military presence in the Middle East fuels instability. He called on the states of the region to build collective security mechanisms without the participation of Washington.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, Haisam bin Tarek Al Said on his part confirmed the commitment of the sultanate to peace in the region and expressed hope for a swift and sustainable cessation of hostilities.

On Saturday in Islamabad, A. Aragchi held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, where the main focus was on discussing the prospects of the Iran-American negotiations. After this, the Iranian diplomat traveled to Muscat, and on Sunday afternoon returned to the capital of Pakistan.
