Beijing, April 26 /Xinhua/ — As of Sunday morning, the total number of border crossings through checkpoints into the Chinese capital since the beginning of the year exceeded 7 million person-times, which is 13.3 percent more on an annual basis. This is evidenced by official data.

According to data from the Beijing Main Border Entry and Exit Control Station, as of Sunday, the capital’s checkpoints have registered over 2.28 million border crossings by foreign citizens since the beginning of the year, which is 34% more compared to the same period last year.

As of April 25, among foreigners who entered Beijing since the beginning of the year, about 828 thousand people used the visa-free entry policy and temporary entry permits, which accounted for 70.4 percent of the total number of foreign entrants.

The growth of outbound tourism in Beijing is partly explained by the continuous optimization of visa-free policies. As of today, China has introduced a unilateral visa-free policy for 50 countries, and has also increased the number to 55 countries whose citizens are allowed a 240-hour visa-free transit.

To improve the effectiveness of border control and enhance service in conditions of growing passenger flow, Beijing has implemented a series of measures, including a service for issuing temporary entry permits and inspections for passengers registering a 240-hour visa-free transit under the “single window” mode, as well as providing consultations on the visa-free regime and assistance in filling out migration cards for tourists visiting China for the first time. –0–
