The Minqin County of the city of Wuwei in Gansu Province is located in the northeastern part of the Hexi Corridor. The county, surrounded by the Tengger and Badain Jaran deserts to the east, west, and north, is often called the “Sandy Edge of China.” In recent years, local authorities have been actively developing the industry of growing pepino (melon pear) in greenhouses, utilizing the advantages of solar energy and desert heat. This contributes to improving the quality and efficiency of modern agriculture. According to the Agriculture and Rural Management of Minqin County, in 2025 the area of greenhouse pepino plantations in the county amounted to 35,200 mu, with an annual production volume of about 940 million yuan.
