Almaty, April 24 /Xinhua/ — A recent meeting between the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and the chairman of the Kuomintang party demonstrated the general direction of the development of relations between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait, and also defined its place in the broader process of China’s national development. This opinion was expressed by the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Business Kazakhstan” Serik Korzhumbaev in an article.
According to him, the meeting clearly designated the basic principle — Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. For Beijing, this is the firm foundation of the entire state position, therefore any interaction is primarily viewed through the prism of the unity of the country and its people on both sides of the strait.
In the official formulation, the emphasis is not on a loud political construct, but on the practical content of interaction — this shows that the peaceful development of relations between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait is understood not as an abstract formula, but as a consistent strengthening of lively ties between people, societies, and economies. The continental part of China simultaneously demonstrates firmness on fundamental issues and openness to those forms of interaction that meet the interests of compatriots, writes S. Korzhumbaev.
As noted in the article, China demonstrates confidence in its own historical legitimacy and in its strategic composure. It emphasizes the indispensability of joint efforts to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait, counter separatist tendencies, and expand a positive agenda.
The expert writes that the Taiwan issue relates to China’s key interests, and the historical and legal belonging of the island to China remains unchanged. At the same time, the stronger the bonds between the two shores of the strait, the deeper the mutual understanding, the wider the cooperation space, the more reliable the foundation for peace and stability of the common future.
That is why China’s line is perceived as a line of strategic confidence. It consists of firm protection of national interests, but is directed towards the future — towards peace, development, unity, and the well-being of all Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, concluded S. Korzhumbaev. –0–
