Beijing, April 24 /Xinhua/ — China will continue to expand openness to the outside world at a high level, accelerate the development of a new quality of productive forces, and contribute to raising the level of high technology, intellectualization, and environmental friendliness of the industry, Commerce Minister of the PRC Wan Wentao said on Thursday.

This will provide foreign enterprises, including Mercedes-Benz, with stable expectations and broad opportunities to establish themselves in China and compete in the global market, Van Wentao said at a meeting with the president of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) and the chairman of the board of Mercedes-Benz Group, Ola Källenius.

The parties exchanged opinions on cooperation between China and the EU in the automotive industry and the trade and economic restrictions of the EU concerning China.

Van Ventao emphasized that the proper regulation of the EU-initiated investigation into subsidies concerning Chinese electric vehicles has become a clear signal to the entire world that both sides have the desire and ability to resolve disagreements through dialogue. However, recently, the EU introduced a number of trade-economic restrictions of a protectionist nature, which significantly damaged China-Europe trade-economic relations.

Van Ventao said that China has expressed serious concern and will firmly protect the legal rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. He hopes that Mercedes-Benz and the European automotive industry as a whole will speak out and urge the EU to adjust inappropriate measures in order to create a fair, honest, non-discriminatory market environment for cooperation between Chinese and European enterprises.

O. Kallenius stated that Mercedes-Benz will expand its investments in China and deepen cooperation with Chinese partners, adding that the European automotive industry values cooperation with China and is ready to continue playing a positive role in supporting both sides in resolving trade and economic disagreements through dialogue and consultations. -0-
