Students from eight leading universities proposed solutions for the real challenges of the urban environment at the three-day interuniversity Hackathon “Technologies of Urban Development,” held as part of the VI All-Russian Interuniversity Forum “The Art of Management: Science, Practice, Project Technologies” at the State University of Management.

Students from Moscow, Moscow Oblast, the Republic of Kalmykia, Tatarstan, and Rostov Oblast took part in the event. They united into interdisciplinary teams to propose solutions for real urban environment challenges — from transport and ecology to infrastructure and quality of life.

The first day was opened by the head of the urban development project-training laboratory, Associate Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Management at GUU Irina Milkina, who spoke about the work format, project evaluation criteria, and introduced the event partners.

At the master class of Associate Professor Irina Romanova’s personnel management department team, interaction rules were established, their strengths were identified, and directions were chosen in which they are ready to propose changes.

The first discussions of the received cases were held by the participants at the scientific library of GUU, and in the evening they went on an excursion to the Museum of the Urban Economy of Moscow, where they got acquainted with advanced technologies and the latest developments in the field of the capital city’s urban economy management system, and three teams met in person with experts from partner organizations and received consultations on further work on the projects.

On April 23, participants will move on to the stage of active generation of ideas and prototyping solutions. Competently structuring team developments will help students, with the assistance of Dmitry Rogov, director of the GG business incubator, during the “Project Packaging” master class. On April 24, teams will present their projects to an expert jury, which will select the winners and nominees of the competition.

The hackathon “Urban Development Technologies” was organized by the urban development project and training laboratory of HSE. Partners included organizations from both the private and public sectors: SberBusiness, Scientific Research Center for Municipal Economics (CNIS), Mosenergo, Roskachestvo, Moscow Analytical Center in the field of urban economy (GBOU “MAC”), Museum of Urban Economy of Moscow, Mostransproekt, Center for Leisure and Sports TINAO, Cafe “On the Moon,” Museum of the Basmanny District – Basmania and the Partnership Bureau for Sustainable Development “Now like this.”
