Phnom Penh, April 23 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Wang Yi held talks on Thursday in Phnom Penh with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Prak Sokhonn.

As Van I noted, the first meeting of the mechanism of the Chinese-Cambodian strategic dialogue in the format “2+2” between the heads of the foreign policy and defense departments of the two countries was successful; the parties confirmed their determination to remain good friends and reliable partners to each other for the long term.

According to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Development, China expects to jointly coordinate development and security with Cambodia, deepen comprehensive cooperation, strengthen coordination and interaction within the framework of multilateral mechanisms, as cooperation between China and ASEAN and cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong basin.

Van I stated that the Chinese side will continue to facilitate the restoration of mutual trust and normalization of relations between Cambodia and Thailand in its own way and is ready to provide new platforms for direct communication between these countries.

Prak Sokhon, in turn, emphasized that the held meeting strengthened political mutual trust between the parties and played an important role in deepening interstate cooperation.

She indicated that Cambodia is grateful to China for valuable support in areas such as infrastructure construction, environmentally clean energy, agriculture, and finance, and expressed readiness for further deepening cooperation with the Chinese side in various spheres.

Prak Sokhon informed about the situation with the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, thanking China for its mediation efforts and expressing hope that the CPC will play an even greater role in this.
