Phnom Penh, April 23 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday in Phnom Penh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Wang Yi held a meeting with the Acting Head of Cambodia, Chairman of the Senate (upper chamber of Parliament) of Cambodia Hun Sen.
Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, arrived in this country to participate in the first meeting of the mechanism for strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers and defense ministers of China and Cambodia in the “2+2” format.
At the meeting, Hun Sen stated that the support and cooperation from China are the most powerful sources of confidence for Cambodia in achieving progress and ensuring security.
The Chairman of the Cambodian Senate expressed his country’s readiness to strengthen strategic communication and strategic cooperation with China in order to protect political security and enhance economic sustainability.
Khun Sen added that Cambodia is fully determined to continue the fight against online gambling and telecommunications fraud until the end, and intends to maintain close cooperation with the People’s Republic of China on this issue.
Van I, in turn, stated that at the meeting on Wednesday, the parties agreed decisively to support each other in protecting their mutual core interests, deepen comprehensive cooperation, strengthen interaction in the legal and defense spheres, and establish closer multilateral coordination.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed confidence that the mechanism of strategic dialogue in the “2+2” format will contribute to strengthening mutual strategic trust.
As added by Van I, China intends to maintain contacts at a high level, expand practical cooperation, and enhance interaction with Cambodia in the field of political security and law enforcement activities.
The parties also conducted an in-depth exchange of views on important issues of the international and regional agenda. –0–
