From April 27 to 30, the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering will become a platform for discussing the future construction industry. Here will take placeIX International Scientific and Practical Conference “Information Modeling in Construction and Architecture Tasks” (BIMAK-2026).
The conference will unite representatives of science, business, government bodies, and the IT industry. The focus is on the development of information modeling technologies (TIM/BIM), the digitization of design and construction, as well as the training of specialists for the new technological reality.
BIMAC has already established itself as a space for professional dialogue, where not only current industry tasks are discussed, but also its strategic development. This year, participants consider the issues of applying BIM/BIM at all stages of the lifecycle of objects – from design to operation.
When digital technologies help to preserve history
One of the most relevant directions of the program will be the section “Digital Restoration of Cultural Heritage Objects.”
It will take place on April 27 from 15:00 to 17:30 in the Meeting Hall of the Academic Council and will bring together specialists working at the intersection of technology and the preservation of the historical environment.
The moderators are the General Director of LLC “RUSEKO-STRLPROEKT”Aleksandr Lapygini.e. head of the department of geodesy, land management, and cadastres of SPbGASUYana Volkova.
Participants discuss how modern digital tools help to “translate” architectural heritage into a digital environment and preserve it for future generations.
In the program of the section:
-
creation of informational models of cultural heritage objects;
-
BIM model examples of landmark objects (including the Taganka Theater in Moscow and the General Staff Building in St. Petersburg);
-
Digital reconstruction of historical buildings;
-
3D scanning and creation of digital twins of architectural monuments;
-
new trends – from open formats to crowdsourcing and gamification.
Such a comprehensive view allows us to talk about the formation of a new culture of working with heritage – digital, accurate, and accessible.
Technologies are changing – the requirements for specialists are changing too
Special attention at the conference is paid to personnel training. As emphasized by the director of the Educational Center for Digital Competencies of SPBGASUDenis Nizhgorodtsev,“Every year, new software products appear that speed up and improve the quality of specialists’ work. But this requires constant mastering of new tools. Therefore, it is important to consider not only specific programs but also the methodology itself – then the graduate will be able to adapt to any technology.”
That is why the university is building a continuous training system—from school to additional education—actively involving employers and software developers in this process.
From students to schoolchildren: who shapes the future of the industry
The conclusion of BIMAK-2026 will be dedicated to summarizing the results of educational competitions, which have become an important part of the conference.
As part of the closing, the announcement of the winners of the TIM championship among SPO students and the solemn awarding of the winners of the Olympiad “All-Russian School TIM Championship” of SPbGASU will take place.
Thus, BIMAC-2026 unites not only the professional community but also future specialists, fostering an interest in digital technologies already at the early stages of education.
The conference will be held in the main building of SPbGASU in person with the possibility of remote participation. Participation is free, and a collection of materials will be published based on the results.
