Incheon /Republic of Korea/, April 22 /Xinhua/ — China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) held a ceremony on Wednesday at Incheon International Airport to transfer the remains of 12 Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) who died during the War to Resist American Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953), as well as 146 personal belongings.
The Chinese delegation was headed by Vice Minister for Veterans Affairs Xu Yaohui, and from the South Korean side — by Deputy Minister of Defense ROK Lee Doo-hee.
At the ceremony, representatives of both sides signed a transfer document. The Chinese delegation held a mourning ceremony during which the national anthem of the PRC was played.
The Chinese ambassador in the DPRK Dai Bin covered the coffins with the remains of fallen soldiers with the cloths of the national flag of China. All participants of the ceremony bowed to the remains, expressing grief and respect. The honor guard of the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) escorted the coffins to the Y-20B aircraft of the PLA Air Force for sending them back to their homeland.
Sü Yayou noted that China and the ROK have been transferring KPA remains for 13 consecutive years in accordance with the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries; since 2014, the remains of 1,023 fallen heroes have been transferred.
According to him, the transfer of the KND remains is a vivid example of friendly cooperation between the two countries, contributing to the strengthening of bilateral friendship and deepening exchanges and cooperation. He also thanked the relevant South Korean agencies and staff for their efforts.
Officials from the relevant Chinese government departments, as well as employees of the Chinese embassy in the Russian Federation, took part in the ceremony. –0–
