Urumqi, April 22 /Xin Hua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, the foreign trade turnover of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /XUAR, Northwest China/ increased by 3.4% compared to the same period last year to 111.68 billion yuan /about 16.4 billion USD/, according to data from the Urumqi customs.
According to the local customs report, in the first three months, the total volume of exports and imports of Suyar within regular trade rose by 13.2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 55.6 percent of the total foreign trade turnover of Xinjian during the reporting period. It is worth noting that in January-March of this year, the volume of trade based on processing here grew significantly, soaring by 428.1 percent year-on-year.
At the same time, there was a further increase in the number of foreign trade enterprises in Xinjiang. As of the end of March this year, there were a total of 2,665 such enterprises in the region, which is 17.9 percent more than the figure for the same period in 2025. In particular, the foreign trade turnover of enterprises with foreign capital participation in the USA jumped by 323 percent year-on-year.
Cooperation between Xinjiang and its main trading partners, such as countries of Central Asia and ASEAN, continues to deepen. From January to March, Xinjiang’s trade turnover with countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative rose by 6.3% year-on-year, accounting for 87.8% of the total volume of foreign trade turnover of the SCA for the reporting period. At the same time, Xinjiang’s trade turnover with ASEAN increased by 30.6% year-on-year.
