Beijing, April 22 /Xin Hua/ — China supports the parties’ aspiration to continue resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means with the aim of achieving a comprehensive and long-term cessation of fire between the USA and Iran, as well as supporting peace and stability in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. This was stated on Wednesday by the official representative of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gu Ziyun.
Ho Chiakun made this statement at another departmental press conference following reports that US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire agreement, which was supposed to expire on Wednesday evening, under certain conditions.
“Currently, the situation in the region is at a critical stage, on which the resolution of the conflict depends. The primary task still remains making every effort to prevent the resumption of hostilities,” he noted.
He added that China is ready, guided by a four-point proposal, to actively and constructively play a role in this direction together with the international community.
