The III All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Biotechs-2026” was held at the Higher School of Biotechnology and Food Production of the Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnology of SPbPU. This year, the partners and sponsors of the event included the companies LLC “TPK Leco Style” and LLC “NORD INGREDIENTS”, which operate in the field of ingredients for the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries.
Participants from all over Russia gathered at the event. The conference brought together more than 170 experts from Vladivostok, Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Arkhangelsk, Yaroslavl, Stavropol, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg. Leading scientists in the fields of agrobiotechnology and the production of biologically active compounds delivered reports.
The participants were welcomed by the director of the Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnology of SPbPU, Andrey Vasin, who noted that biotechnology is currently one of the priority areas of scientific and technological development in Russia. The chairman of the organizing committee, director of the Graduate School of Biotechnology and Food Production Yuliy Bazarnov emphasized that the format of holding the annual scientific conference contributes to the development of communication between educational structures and representatives of the real bioeconomy sector.
With a plenary report on natural biologically active compounds of phytoecdysteroids and medicinal preparations based on them, Professor Vladimir Volodin of the Higher School of Biotechnology and Food Production spoke.
A report on promising technological and technical solutions for the extraction and encapsulation of biologically active substances from plant raw materials was made by Yuri Maksimenko, professor of the department “Technological Machines and Equipment”, vice-rector for research and innovation of Astra State Technical University.
The head of the research center KhimBiomed of Pskov State University, Taras Antal, told the participants of the plenary session about the original method of measuring and analyzing chlorophyll fluorescence for monitoring the condition of microalgae in the phyto-bioreactor.
In a remote format, Irina Potoroko, director of the Higher Medical and Biological School of the South Ural State University (National Research University), joined the plenary session. She talked about the application of non-thermal methods of decontamination in the production and processing of cereal crops.
The advantages of using bacteria of the genus Bacillus in growing grain crops were the subject of a report by the senior researcher of Laboratory of Microbial Preparations Technology No. 8 of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Agricultural Microbiology, Veronika Pishchik.
At the site of the Higher School of Biotechnology and Food Production, meetings of sections on the following directions were held: molecular and cellular biotechnology, agri-biotechnology and obtaining biologically active substances (BAS), environmental biotechnology, food systems and practical nutraceuticals, which received a record number of applications. The topic “Agri-biotechnology and obtaining BAS” aroused great interest among the participants.
This year, for the first time, a round table format was implemented: “Biotechnologies and functional ingredients: trends, technologies, and next-generation products.” The main speakers were representatives of companies — official partners of the conference LLC “TPK Leko Style” and LLC “NORD INGREDIENTS.”
The head of the marketing department of the company LLC “NORD INGREDIENTS”, Ekaterina Muravyeva, noted:The roundtable platform brought together representatives of science, education, and business, creating conditions for a meaningful dialogue on the development of functional ingredients and products of the new generation. We are confident that such meetings contribute to strengthening partnerships and advancing innovation in the food industry.

Director of assortment development and management of LLC “Leko Style” Lyubov Pugachyova added:The discussion was lively and rich: participants shared practical experience, discussed current industry challenges and development prospects related to the creation of next-generation products. The participation of students added particular value. Their involvement, interest, and willingness to ask questions made the dialogue more open and dynamic. At the conference, for the first time, a session “Start in Science” was held, in which senior school students from general educational institutions of Saint Petersburg and other cities of Russia talked about their scientific discoveries.
