AVTOTER specialists are testing a new extrusion line: the first aluminum profile has been produced

AVTOTOR specialists have started testing equipment for extrusion aluminum production, which is being developed as part of the second phase of the automotive components cluster.
The launch of the second phase enterprises of the auto components cluster will create a closed loop providing a complete cycle for the manufacturing of critically important assemblies from ferrous and non-ferrous metals with machining, including the production of internal combustion engines, transmissions, and steering systems. The project is being implemented by AVTOTOR within the framework of a Special Investment Contract with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, aimed at addressing accelerated import substitution and technological independence, producing highly localized products to meet the needs of both AVTOTOR’s own automotive manufacturing and other enterprises in the industry.
Production at this level is being established in the Kaliningrad region for the first time and represents a new direction in the development of the region’s industrial potential.
Currently, the installed and equipped aluminum extrusion line is being tested in commissioning mode. The technology envisages a production process in which the material from aluminum alloy is pushed through a die with a specific cross-sectional profile, allowing the creation of complex shapes with high structural integrity. The aluminum profile is easily deformable: it becomes plastic when heated, does not lose its properties after pressing, and undergoes hardening. The profiles achieve high precision: the dimensional deviation of the profile after extrusion does not exceed a few hundredths of a millimeter (tens of microns).
The line provides the capability to press large-sized profiles, individual items – with a circumscribed diameter of up to 350 mm, as well as profiles 450 mm wide and up to 60 mm high. These products will be used in mechanical engineering, in particular as side profiles for trailers and semi-trailers.
Line testing is currently being carried out on simple profiles. The next stage will be testing complex profiles, including those for the traction motor housing.
Upon completion of the entire testing complex and commissioning of the facility under construction, it is planned to reach a capacity of up to 800 tons of products per month, assuming continuous round-the-clock operation.
