On November 4, 2026, at the Sports and Patriotic Park near the sports palace “AVTOTOR ARENA,” the outdoor exhibition “Armor That Became a Legend” was opened. The project was initiated and implemented by the company AVTOTOR with the support of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region and the administration of the municipal district “City of Kaliningrad,” as well as with the participation of the MAUK “Museum ‘Friedland Gates.'”
The opening of the exhibition is timed to the 80th anniversary of the Kaliningrad region and the National Unity Day. The solemn ceremony was attended by representatives of regional and city authorities, the State Duma of the Russian Federation, veterans’ and public organizations, the museum community, AUTOTOR employees, and residents of Kaliningrad.
“Thanks to the AVTOTOR enterprise team, we are opening a landmark point on the map of our city – a patriotic museum-park where residents and youth can get acquainted with samples of military equipment on which our grandfathers and fathers fought,” noted Sergey Bulychev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region.
The new exhibition has been created as part of the development of the Sports and Patriotic Park in the microdistrict named after A. Kosmodemyansky. On an area of about one hectare, 14 units of land and naval military equipment are presented, transferred by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to the administration of the city district “City of Kaliningrad” during the year 2026.
Using its own funds, AVTOTOR’s equipment underwent an examination for compliance with demilitarization requirements, was delivered to the exhibition site, and brought into a condition suitable for public display.
The exhibition included the BRM-1K combat reconnaissance vehicle, BTR-60P armored personnel carrier, two BRDM-2 combat reconnaissance and patrol vehicles, BMP-1KSh command and staff infantry fighting vehicle, a specialized system on a T-55 chassis, as well as samples of naval military equipment and armaments: AK-100 and AK-176M automatic naval artillery mounts, PK-16 and PK-10 “Smely” shipborne electronic warfare systems, RBU-1200 “Uragan” rocket bomb launchers, and the low-noise group underwater carrier “Sirena-UM.”
“Here, the ground forces, naval forces, missile defense systems, and modern equipment models are combined. One can trace a certain evolution—from technology of the late 1950s to models created much later,” said Andrey Yartsev, director of MAUK ‘Friedland Gate’ Museum.
The preparation of the exhibition took almost a year. Museum specialists gathered historical and technical information about the objects, developed informational materials, and designed the tour route. A digital guide has been created for visitors, which explains in an accessible way the design, engineering solutions, and operating principles of each exhibit.
“Such a center for patriotic education is very important for young people. Events involving teenagers, veterans, participants of the special military operation, and people who chose the profession of defending the Motherland will be held here,” emphasized Marina Orgeyeva, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“Many thanks to the management of AVTOTOR for working together with the city administration to create such places and spaces where our youth can learn new things, prepare for modern life, and spend time,” noted Hero of the Russian Federation, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Andrey Kozlov.
“For AVTOTOR, this project is not just an initiative, but part of our social mission. We have been working in this neighborhood for many years, and it is important to us that people truly enjoy living here, that spaces appear near the plant where the whole family wants to come. We believe that the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland should be alive, accessible, and genuine. The exhibition will operate year-round—for tours, patriotic education, and family leisure,” said Anastasia Kuznetsova, Senior Vice President for Projects in the Kaliningrad Region of the AVTOTOR holding.
“Every square meter of this land is soaked with the blood of our warriors. It is very symbolic that AVTOTOR, being one of the largest engineering enterprises, took on the task of preserving historical memory in the neighborhood,” added the head of the urban district “City of Kaliningrad,” Elena Dyatlova.
Based on the exposition, regular tours, historical quests, school and thematic programs, meetings with veterans, tactical games, master classes, and seasonal events are planned. On the opening day, residents and guests of the city enjoyed demonstration performances by OMON fighters, a team tactical game, a historical quest, a concert program, a therapeutic physical education master class, and interactive activities for children. The opening of the exposition became part of the festive program for the National Unity Day. Its creation symbolizes the connection of historical memory with the modern understanding of unity, continuity of generations, and shared responsibility for the future. The exposition is open for visits on the territory of the Sports and Patriotic Park near the Avtotor Arena Sports Palace in Kaliningrad.
