The airline NordStar has released a specialized safety video instruction created specifically for passengers with hearing impairments – and for the first time, the video instruction is available in the free onboard entertainment system. The video combines sign language and visual cues, making the pre-flight briefing on the use of emergency rescue equipment accessible to passengers with hearing limitations. Passengers will be able to review the video instruction before takeoff, as well as study it additionally during the flight on their mobile devices.

The video became a continuation of the regular work on creating and improving an inclusive environment and expanded the accessibility of informational materials for all categories of passengers. The purpose of the video is to help hearing-impaired and deaf passengers familiarize themselves in detail with the demonstration of emergency rescue equipment and be confident in their actions if necessary.

“For the airline NordStar, it is fundamentally important to ensure equal safety and comfort conditions for all passengers, including taking into account the needs of people with health conditions. Safety instructions in video format are another step towards making travel with NordStar accessible to everyone. The airline regularly improves the service procedures for special categories of passengers at all stages – from purchasing tickets and check-in to boarding assistance and arrival at the destination, so that each flight is as convenient as possible,” noted CEO Leonid Mokhov.

When creating the video tutorial, the airline closely collaborated with specialized organizations representing the interests of people with hearing impairments, as well as with certified sign language interpreters. This allowed all nuances of information perception to be taken into account and made the video as effective as possible. Active flight attendants of the airline who know sign language were involved in the video.

A new video instruction is available for viewing before the flight on the airline’s website www.nordstar.ru in the “Information for Passengers” section, as well as during the flight in the free onboard entertainment system on all NordStar airline flights. The video instruction fully duplicates the standard briefing, the flight attendant accompanies each crew action in Russian sign language – so passengers with hearing impairments receive all the necessary information in a convenient format.
