At the 10th Anniversary International Meeting of Friends of Protected Islands, the traditional volunteer event “Trace of the Meeting” took place. After many years, it was held again in the Botanical Garden of the Palace of Pioneers on the Vorobyovy Hills — a place with a rich history and a special atmosphere.

The Botanical Garden of the Moscow Palace of Pioneers was established in 1964 simultaneously with the construction of the Palace itself on the Lenin Hills (now Vorobyovy Hills). Today it is a small garden in terms of area (only 0.75 hectares), but recognized by the botanical community: it is a member of the Council of Botanical Gardens of Russia and the International Council of Botanical Gardens for Plant Conservation (BGCI). The collection includes about 4,800 plant taxa, including an arboretum, a greenhouse, and a winter garden.

For the Friends of the Protected Islands Movement, this place is especially dear. At the first Gatherings, an alley of trees was planted here — and the current event has become a continuation of this great tradition. “Trace of the Gathering” is not just a community clean-up day, but a living connection of generations and a contribution to the future.

This time the participants worked hard and did a great job:

– Planted 10 tree peonies — seedlings from the Botanical Garden’s own reproduction.

– 25 varieties of park roses were planted.

– Helped to reprocess the windfall into wood chips.

– Put the garden’s management in order.

– Installed a feeder for squirrels and birds so that the garden’s inhabitants always have food.

Almost 40 people participated in the event. Among the volunteers were members of the “Legends of the Reserve Keepers” project and delegates from various regions: the Republic of Bashkortostan, Rostov Oblast, Voronezh Oblast, Moscow Oblast, Primorsky Krai, Kaluga Oblast, the Republic of Mari El, Kurgan Oblast, and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The lively and kind Trace of the Rally will delight the garden staff and all guests for many years to come.
