Conflicts and protests
UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday condemned acts of violence committed during protests that have spread across Europe and other regions. At the same time, he called for preventing violence from distracting attention from the legitimate demands of peaceful demonstrators. Speaking to journalists in New York, the Secretary-General linked public discontent to the expansion of armed conflicts and their impact on the global economy. According to Guterres, food, fuel, and other essential goods are becoming more expensive, interest rates are rising, and young people are finding it increasingly difficult to count on a better future.
Strikes on Ukraine
Attacks by Russian armed forces continue to claim lives and disrupt vital services across Ukraine, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. According to Ukrainian authorities, since yesterday at least 15 civilians have died and nearly 90 more have been injured, including seven children. In Kyiv, residential buildings, a medical facility, six ambulances, and metro infrastructure have been damaged. Yesterday in Donetsk region, a drone seriously damaged a vehicle belonging to a local humanitarian organization. The staff were unharmed, but the evacuation of residents from Kramatorsk and Sloviansk was suspended.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territory, Ramiz Alakbarov, together with diplomats from 13 countries, visited the Jenin area in the West Bank. The purpose of the trip was to learn about the difficulties faced during the olive harvest and the situation of displaced persons. Palestinian farmers spoke about regular attacks by settlers. Humanitarian partners reported that they accompany olive pickers in the groves and provide them with legal assistance in challenging Israeli restrictions.
