Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova held a meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the All-Russian A.S. Pushkin Museum in Saint Petersburg. The meeting took place at the G.R. Derzhavin Museum-Estate. The event was also attended by Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov, Director of the All-Russian A.S. Pushkin Museum Olga Korneva, Head of the Federal Archival Agency Andrey Artizov, and other government officials and cultural sector representatives.
“147 years ago, on October 19, 1879, the first museum in Russia dedicated to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was opened at the Imperial Alexander Lyceum. This day is considered the founding date of the first Pushkin museum in Russia. From this date we count — in 2029 the All-Russian Pushkin Museum will celebrate its 150th anniversary and the 230th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. In March of this year, the country’s President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin signed a decree to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the All-Russian Museum. Our organizing committee was established in accordance with this decree,” emphasized Tatyana Golikova.
She also added that the anniversary is not only an occasion for celebrations. “The upcoming anniversary provides an opportunity not only to recognize the merits of the country’s first Pushkin museum but also to increase interest in studying historical and cultural heritage. We have a large amount of work ahead of us and perhaps a chance to reinterpret the nearly one and a half century-long period of the museum’s existence, to thank those people who have preserved, are preserving, and continue to preserve the unique exhibits and this unique building, which reminds us not only of Alexander Sergeyevich but also of his comrades and associates. Of course, we will have to decide together how the museum will continue to develop,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
“The All-Russian Museum of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin is the world’s first museum dedicated to the great national poet. For us, celebrating the anniversary of this institution is an important and responsible event. The goal of the main anniversary events is to ensure maximum accessibility for the country’s residents to the memorial cultural heritage sites and museum collection items. It is precisely the uniqueness of the All-Russian Pushkin Museum that determined the sections of our plan, whose implementation is scheduled for 2027–2029,” noted Olga Lyubimova.
The events cover commemorative dates, including in 2027 – the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Memorial Museum-Apartment of Pushkin; in 2028 – the 285th anniversary of the birth of the statesman Gavriil Derzhavin, as well as the 25th anniversary of the restoration of his city estate. In 2029, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the All-Russian Pushkin Museum and the 230th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin’s birth are celebrated.
The ceremonial events will begin with a jubilee exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Pushkin Museum-Apartment on the Moyka River Embankment, 12. Rarely exhibited materials from the museum’s collections, unique documents from museums and archives of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Dmitrov will be presented.
The next significant project is the exhibition “Union of Russian Artists.” In 1908–1909, more than 470 works by the best St. Petersburg and Moscow masters from the artistic association “Union of Russian Artists” were displayed in house 12 on the Moika River. Some of the works held in the collections of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Russian Museum will be presented in the same halls where they were exhibited 120 years ago.
The plan for the main anniversary events includes traveling (mobile) exhibitions in the regions of the Russian Federation.
An important direction of the plan is related to the preservation of cultural heritage sites and the development of the museum complex’s infrastructure. The plan project includes a set of works at the Derzhavin Museum-Estate, including the completion of facade restoration, work on low-current systems, and the restoration of the historic fence, which forms the historical perimeter of the museum-estate’s territory together with the main gates.
A series of scientific and cultural-educational events is planned. In 2027, the scientific conference “Belyaev Readings” will take place. It continues the tradition of commemorative meetings
at Moika, 12, the first of which took place on February 10, 1925. The readings bring together philologists, historians, art historians, museum workers, and independent researchers.
In 2028, the All-Russian Derzhavin Forum will be held at the Derzhavin Museum-Estate, dedicated to the 285th anniversary of Gavriil Romanovich and the 25th anniversary of the museum-estate. The program includes plenary and sectional sessions, round tables, online sessions, and other forms of professional dialogue.
In June 2029, the forum of the Association of Literary Museums of Russia will take place. A separate series of events has been proposed by Rosmolodezh.
The anniversary program also includes ceremonial events: a vocal and poetic program for the 100th anniversary of the Pushkin Memorial Museum-Apartment is planned to be held at the State Academic Capella of Saint Petersburg, and a concert program for the 150th anniversary of the museum will take place at the Mariinsky Palace of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg in 2029.
The scientific and exhibition activities are complemented by a publishing program that includes the preparation of collectible and scientific editions, the publication of conference materials and research dedicated to the museum’s history, as well as the most significant part of its collection.
Alexander Beglov stated that Petersburg will do everything possible to ensure that the museum’s anniversary is worthy of the memory of the great poet. “The city is working to preserve commemorative Pushkin sites. It promptly issues permits and approves projects for restoration and other works on the museum’s objects. The All-Russian A.S. Pushkin Museum has joined the “Silver Age” program — representatives of the older generation can visit it for free with a special electronic certificate. It actively participates in the cultural life of Petersburg, hosting events such as “Museum Night” and “Cultural Notebook.” City creative teams hold events on its premises,” the governor reported.
“It is important that the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the All-Russian Museum of A.S. Pushkin becomes an event of nationwide significance and unites the most diverse areas of the country’s cultural and social life. The jubilee program should be reflected in culture, education, science, literature, youth initiatives, and unite people of different generations and residents of various regions of Russia,” emphasized Olga Korneva, director of the All-Russian Museum of A.S. Pushkin.
In addition, the participants of the meeting familiarized themselves with the exhibition of the G.R. Derzhavin Museum-Estate and the temporary exhibition “Gifts to the All-Russian A.S. Pushkin Museum from the collection of M.V. Seslavinsky.”
